Words from Canon Niall ~
Persecution is not a distant reality; millions of Christians today face violence, discrimination, or imprisonment for their faith. Jesus’ warning in the Gospel about betrayal and hatred resonates in regions where believers risk their lives to worship. Yet, He promises wisdom to speak truth under trial. The martyrs and persecuted Christians embody Malachi’s ‘sun of Justice,’ shinning as witnesses to Christ’s love. Their courage challenges us to examine our own faith. Do we stand firm in smaller trials- ridicule, cultural pressures, or moral compromises?
Supporting our persecuted brothers and sisters through prayer, advocacy, and charity strengths the Body of Christ. One way to do this is by supporting the work of papal charity Aid to the Church in Need.
Paul’s call to work diligently reminds us to live our faith actively, even in adversity. As we face an uncertain world, let’s trust God’s promise, drawing strength from the Eucharist to persevere, knowing that our endurance leads to eternal life.
As we honour persecuted Christians, let’s pray for their strength and witness. May we, too, persevere in faith, trusting in God’s justice. Through this Mass, may Christ fortify us to live boldly for him, united with all who suffer for his name.
Have a blessed week.

  • Thresholds of Hope : the Vicariate for Adult Formation - another wonderful tool when proclaiming the good news of God's grace to all. St John Henry Newman believed that the lay faithful were to take a full part in the life of the Church, to be confident in expressing their Catholic Faith and willing to share its beauty with others. Hope you find this resource useful; more here https://thresholdsofhope.co.uk/
